Fall 2009
On September 19, 2009 the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nurses met in Lynchburg at the Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. It provided an educational opportunity for nurses, radiologic technologists and other health care professionals to expand their knowledge of current procedures and patient care issues. It also provided opportunities for networking and an informal forum to discuss current practice and professional issues.
The Conference had a focus on vascular concerns in a Radiology setting. Brian Dempsey lead off with a talk on Venous Disease and its Treatments. UVa's Robin Passantino spoke on Carotid Angioplasty & Stents, Endovascular Treatment of Carotid Stenosis. Kim Deaver and Sandra Schwaner focused on the Dialysis Patient with their lectures Dialysis Vascular Access & Treating Dialysis Access in the Interventional Radiology Suite.
Expanding the perspective of the meeting Charles Stanley the Medical Center Manager, MRI / CT / Advanced Visualization (3D) Lab at UVa brought people up to date on issues in MRI Safety.
Dean Birt gave a physician assistant perspective on Post Cardiac Changes in PA Chest X-rays.
As always it was an excellent opportunity to see old friends and make new ones; to share successes and accomplishments with colleagues from around the area; to once again make a commitment to keep in touch and to look forward to doing it all again next year.
