Acute Pediatrics at The UVa Children's Hospital

The Physical Therapists on the Pediatric Acute Floor provide a wide variety of services for a large age range of patients, from premature infants to young adults.

The Pediatric therapists are responsible for evaluating and treating patients through developmental play activities and teaching functional mobility.  We provide multi-disciplinary care by assisting with discharge needs through team rounds.

The Pediatric Service consists of two “floor” units, 7W and 7C, as well as two Intensive Care Units, the Pediatric ICU and the Neonatal ICU.  The diagnoses of the pediatric patient vary greatly, and may include: post-operative orthopedic impairments, neurologically involved conditions, leukemia or other types of cancer, cerebral palsy, weakness from prolonged hospitalization, and developmental delays secondary to premature birth.

The Acute Pediatric P.T. team works closely with the therapy staff at Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center to provide a continuum of care.
