Aquatic exercise program for teenagers and young adults with a disability.
The aquatic exercise program is for teenagers and young adults with a disability. The program takes place during the spring and fall semesters, Wednesday mornings. Each class has a physical therapist and a therapeutic recreation specialist, Aquatic Interns and trained volunteers, to assist each child. Emphasis is placed on active and passive range of motion, psycho-social stimulation and movement to music.
$16.00 per class; scholarships available.

Yoga for Children with Special Needs
Yoga is good for the body and the mind. This UVa Children's Hospital program adapts traditional yoga teachings to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. The approach is non-competitive and provides a foundation for building trust, self-confidence and a life-long form of exercise.
Instructor: Ruth Goldeen, Occupational Therapist
Assisted By: a pediatric Physical Therapist
Ages 5 years and above (parents, siblings and friends are welcome)

Ballet & Movement for Children with a Physical Disability
This class is geared for children ages 3-7 with a moderate to severe physical disability -Children can walk or use a wheelchair -Classes taught by experienced dance instructor with assistance from a recreation therapist.

Adapted Aquatics Class.
This class teaches basic acclimatization, exercises and swimming skills to children with varying degrees of physical and cognitive impairments. Participants receive one to one instruction from trained Aquatic Interns and volunteers. Sessions are 45 minutes long at a cost of $13 a session. PACE. (Program of Activity, Creativity, and Exercise).
This program provides a safe, fun, and exercise orientated environment for ambulatory children with cerebral palsy and developmental delays aged from 3-21 years. Patients rotate through a number of activity stations designed to meet their specific physical and cognitive needs. Patients receive one to one supervision from trained Interns and volunteers. Director is Tom Moran, M.S.Ed. (Doctoral student in Adapted Physical Education).Program coordinator is Dave Burton, M.Ed, WSI (Adapted Physical Education). Cost is $13 a session.
