Pediatric Faculty Research Mentors
The Pediatric Faculty are a wonderful resource for ideas and guidance on research projects. In addition to those listed below, many other faculty provide mentorship for fellow and resident research. Don't be shy! Talk to people who do the type of research that might interest you. Or contact Dr. Martha Hellems to schedule a brainstorming session.
Faculty have indicated if they have ongoing research in which a resident may participate, if they have ideas or suggestions for possible research projects, or if they have no specific project in mind but would like to help as a mentor and are open to ideas.
The results of many resident research studies have been published in the medical literature. Although publication is not the primary goal for resident research, it can be very rewarding to have the opportunity to share the results of your hard work with the medical community.
Good mentorship, careful planning (of study design and residents' time!), and good support are critical to optimizing a research experience during a busy residency. Patience and persistence also help.
