The KCRC is a user-friendly facility for children and their families. As you enter the main entrance you will find:
- An open, welcoming play area, staffed by a play supervisor who provides organized activities for children
- Computers and other resources to help you access information on medical topics and play interactive games
- A vending area and cafeteria available during clinic hours
KCRC outpatient facilities include large spaces for physical and occupational therapy activites and smaller, more private individual therapy and testing rooms.
The dental clinic, located in the outpatient wing, provides hygiene and dental services to patients.
The therapeutic recreation program includes an indoor pool providing one-to-one therapeutic and recreational swimming for hospitalized patients as well as outpatients.
The greenhouse and gardens provide year round Horticultural Therapy for our patients. A horticultural specialist coordinates all gardening activities. The program includes seasonal plant sales and active community programs. The green house and raised beds are located in a courtyard near the inpatient unit.
Our Therapeutic Recreation areas include a large gym with a wide variety of sports and leisure activities. A playground and picnic tables are located in a courtyard near the inpatient unit.
Features of our 19-bed Inpatient Unit include:
- Rooms decorated with family pictures, favorite toys from home, cards and banners.
- Family lounge for conversation, playing games or relaxing.
- Toy-filled playroom with rocking chairs, VHS tape player, videos, and computer games.
- Computer with internet access.
- Coffee maker and microwave oven for parent use.
The Hospital Education Program at KCRC has four large classrooms to accommodate children of different ages and abilities.
Our cafeteria offers a variety of meals for patients and families, with several food choice options at each meal and salad bar, sandwiches and grill items. Food preferences and special dietary needs are accommodated. Families and visitors are encouraged to join patients for meals. Food may be purchased at very reasonable prices.
