UVA Children's Hospital Outpatient Centers
For several decades, our faculty and staff have traveled across the Commonwealth to improve access for our patients. This network is strengthened by our Hospital Education Program, which is linked to our patients' teachers and communities.
We are now ready to build a physical bridge from the University Hospital to our new Barry and Bill Battle outpatient building, for which construction is planned to begin in 2010. This facility will encompass medical and surgical outpatient services for children, combining clinics currently dispersed across Charlottesville (Primary Care Center, KCRC, University Hospital), and an ambulatory surgical suite.
Department Education Programs
Education remains a core mission for our Department, and faculty enthusiastically engage students from high school, college, and medical school to persuade them of the rewards of medical practice to children. In addition to UVA University Hospital, our medical students complete their clerkships at either INOVA Fairfax Hospital for Children or at the Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley. Our residents and fellows come from across the nation, and join the finest practices or academic faculties across the U.S.
Complementing our weekly continuing medical education conferences at the Medical Center:
- The annual McLemore Birdsong Pediatric Conference drew hundreds of pediatricians and family practitioners from across the U.S.
- Our exchange program with the National Children's Hospital of Costa Rica celebrated its 26th anniversary, drawing hundreds of physicians from Latin America.
The state, national, and international educational bridges developed by our department have been built over many decades, and continue to multiply: as the number of our graduates grows, so does the number of our ambassadors!
