How Do We Meet Our Goal?

1. A small group of students will work closely with an interdisciplinary and distinguished University of Virginia faculty of lawyers, doctors, ethicists, and business professors who are recognized nationally in their respective disciplines to explore complexities of the business, medical, and legal challenges confronting the healthcare delivery system and to understand what thoughtful leadership in these fields will require.

Students selected for the program will engage with faculty and other students in small seminars to explore some of the issues confronting the healthcare delivery system. In addition, students will focus on the changing concepts of professionalism in the medical, legal and business professions.

2. The practicum aspect of the program will involve an intense, hands-on research experience. Students, working closely with an inter-disciplinary team of faculty members, will pursue a research project, either individually or in teams that focuses on one challenging policy issue associated with the healthcare system. The goal of the research is that the student(s) will produce a paper of publishable quality.

Students who satisfactorily complete program requirements will be given a certificate and may request letters of recommendation to graduate schools from faculty.
