EMCERT Advisory Board

Emergency Medicine Center for Education,
Research and Technology

Advisory Board:

In April 1995, the University’s Board of Visitors formally recognized Emergency Medicine as a separate Department in the School of Medicine.  During the Emergency Medicine faculty retreat in October of 1998, the concept for EMCERT was first presented.  Two years later in May 2000, the concept evolved into reality with the approval of EMCERT by UVA Health System’s Executive Administration.   On June 20, 2000, the inaugural EMCERT Advisory Board meeting was held.

Mission Statement:

The Emergency Medicine Center for Education, Research, and Technology (EMCERT) will allow the Department of Emergency medicine to further enhance its commitment to provide the highest level of care to patients through relevant educational/research/technological initiatives.  This will enable faculty researchers to find better solutions and treatments for the future emergency patient.  By strategically identifying future emergency needs of the community, training the next generation of emergency technicians, paramedics, medical students, registered nurses and physicians and pursuing research in critical clinical areas of emergency medicine, the Center will play an essential and dynamic role in transforming emergency medicine to improve the health of the citizens of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and beyond.  return to top

Historical Perspective:

The idea for EMCERT was presented in October 1998, during the proceeding of the Department of Emergency Medicine faculty retreat, held at Prospect Hill.  Over the next two years, the concept further evolved from an idea generated in 1998, to approval by the UVA Health System Administration and the EMCERT Advisory Board was established in 2000.

The EMCERT Advisory Board was established to develop the Emergency Medicine Center for Education, Research, and Technology into a viable successful center of excellence, enhancing patient care, and investing in the transformation of emergency medicine.  The EMCERT Advisory Board is tasked with securing funding for a financially successful and sustaining operation, providing input on community outreach, public relations and fund development and reviewing operations to develop new opportunities for emergency medicine.               return to top
