Neurosciences at UVA

Neurological disorders strike the very core of what it means to be human – memory, personality, movement, the ability to acquire and process information, even the ability to relate to those you love. At UVA, patients with neurological disorders are treated with the most recently discovered therapies while our researchers work against the clock to discover new ways to help. Each team integrates the best of its specialty to offer compassionate care and hope for the future.

Priority Needs

Gifts directed to any of our neurological research and patient care centers are appreciated, but some special needs rank at the top of our wish list.

Isa Hussaini

Groundbreaking Research. Research in the neurosciences changes and evolves at a rapid pace, and investigators at UVA are leaders in their fields. Private philanthropy provides vital funding to seed innovative, new approaches to neurological treatments and therapies, especially in the early stages before they become eligible for government and industry grants.

Resident at UVA

Professorship, Fellowship, & Resident Support. Gifted physicians and scientists are the most critical components of any major clinical or scientific enterprise. To build on our existing strengths, UVA must retain and recruit talented leaders in neurology, child neurology, neuro-oncology, neuroscience, psychiatry and neurosurgery — as well as prepare the next generation of neuroscience leaders. Endowed gifts are among the most valuable tools in this endeavor.

Dr. Schiff, Dr. Purow, and patient

Individualized Patient Care. The demand for intuitive, comprehensive care for those suffering from neurological disorders will increase as our population ages. Private support will help us offer new hope to these patients and their families.

 Dr. Sheehan

Equipment and Program Support. New laboratory facilities, staff, and equipment require substantial funding. Many of these needs are interdisciplinary and mulitfunctional, making the impact of your gift even greater. State-of-the-art equipment gives our people the resources they need to pioneer advances in the neurosciences.
