Putting Children First — the Barry & Bill Battle Building at UVA Children's Hospital.
Over the decades, UVA Children's Hospital has grown from a small regional children's program to an internationally recognized hospital for children. To address growth and urgent demand, UVA will construct a new children's hospital outpatient building. The facility, supported by a $38 million campaign, will consolidate services — including clinics, rehabilitation space, and clinical research suites — all in one convenient and friendly location.

Jeffrey's Gifts
Jeffrey's Gifts delivers giant surprise bags of special toys to children fighting cancer at University of Virginia Children's Hospital. Each bag can turn tears into laughter, a pout into a smile, and despair into hope. Each year, Janet Centini and her family prepare more than 100 Jeffrey's Gifts bags. Each bag is unique, but they all contain toys; comfort items such as pillows, fleece blankets, teeshirts, and baseball caps; coupons for movies, pizza, and other treats; and one certificate for an extra-special gift. The special gift is an item of the individual child's choosing and may be a DVD player, digital camera, video gaming console, MP3 player, or other longed-for treat. Past gifts have even included a bike and a Barbie computer.
The Annual UVA Children's Hospital Telethon
The Children's Miracle Network Telethon is broadcast live every spring by WVIR-NBC29, but Telethon gifts are accepted year-round. These gifts target priority needs within UVA Children's Hospital, serving the areas most critical to children and families. UVA Children's Hospital gets referrals from across Virginia and from many other states and even other countries. The Telethon, which is part of a national effort to raise funds for children's health, benefits all these children. Every penny raised by the Telethon remains in our community to support the work of UVA Children's Hospital.
The Sarah Du Bose Fund - Helping Hospitalized Children
Sarah Du Bose was born 14 weeks prematurely in the Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and spent many weeks there. To thank the doctors, nurses, and staff who provided loving and nurturing care for Sarah, her parents, Charles and Sally, created the Sarah Du Bose Fund. The Du Bose Fund supports hospitalized children (especially NICU babies) and their families by providing for items and services not included in the normal operating budget.
The Jennifer Fund - Helping Children with Cancer
When Jennifer Marshall was diagnosed with leukemia, she and her parents, Ginny and Steve Marshall, decided to help other children with cancer or blood diseases. They created the Jennifer Fund to support research and education in the UVA Children's Hospital's Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology (HEMONC). The fund also provides amenities such as video games, phone cards, compact disc players, toys, and recliner chairs to make patient and family stays more comfortable.
