    About Claude Moore

Claude MooreThe Claude Moore Nursing Education Building honors one of UVA's most generous benefactors. Dr. Claude Moore, a 1916 graduate of the School of Medicine, was committed to enhancing the educational opportunities for young people in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and in 1987, established a foundation to further this philanthropic vision.

In 2006, the Claude Moore Charitable Foundation awarded the School of Nursing $5 million - the largest single gift in the school's history - to support the expansion for the nursing school. This transformational gift, along with a large commitment from the Commonwealth of Virginia, made the new building possible, by meeting a significant portion of the building's cost as well as motivating other donors to step forward.
