Barry and Bill Battle Building at UVA Children's Hospital
|
|
For children coping with complex illnesses, the Barry and Bill Battle Building will provide a bridge between the acute care they receive in the hospital and the routine care they manage at home. Community excitement and fundraising momentum are growing as new details about the building emerge. The project is scheduled to break ground in 2010. |

About Barry and Bill Battle
In 2006, the Ivy Foundation made a tremendous $45 million gift to the UVA Health System to advance clinical care and research, which included a $15 million lead gift for a new UVA Children's Hospital outpatient facility. The future building's name honors Barry and Bill Battle, two of the strongest advocates of children's healthcare in central Virginia.
Among his many professional accomplishments, William Battle served as a member of the UVA Board of Visitors and chair of the Ivy Foundation before his death in 2008.
Barry Battle has been involved with UVA Children's Hospital for more than 20 years. She chaired the Children's Medical Center Committee when it was created in the 1980s, as well as the first Children's Hospital telethon. She recently joined the UVA Children's Hospital Campaign Steering Committee, where her efforts continue to advance children's health in our area.
